About
the Plymouth Classical Music Concert Diary
History and Aims This website was first set up in October 2000 in frustration at the lack of a single place listing all classical music events in the Plymouth area.
The best information source was the printed Concert Diary published by Plymouth Music Accord, containing details of their members' concerts. With the permission and encouragement of Don King from the Accord to use their information, and with additional content gleaned from elsewhere, I set up the site which has been growing since then and which went through a birthday makeover in October 2001 to give it a more professional look.
My aim is to encourage concert-going in the Plymouth area by ensuring that people know in advance about forthcoming events, and to provide useful background information and links relevant to music lovers. In addition I hope to support local music organisations and performers by publicising their events.
Information and Encouragement
I should like to thank the following people for their encouragement, advice and provision of concert information:
Don King, former Membership Secretary of Plymouth Music Accord
Jeanie Moore MVO, concert organiser
Philip R. Buttall, classical correspondent for the Evening Herald, pianist and composer
Alice Li, University of Plymouth
Simon Ible, Ten Tors Concert OrchestraWeb Design
I have built upon the experiences gained in developing this and other music-related sites by setting up minim website design which specialises in functional, easy-to-use and literate websites which are quick to download. If you are looking for a website please visit minim and contact me via the e-mail link for a discussion.
