Sherwell Centre Concerts

Saturday evening chamber music concerts, organised by the Plymouth Chamber Music Trust (PCMT), have been held in the Sherwell Centre, University of Plymouth, for 16 years. Unfortunately the Trust has announced that 2009/10 will be the last season, after which the Trust will be dissolved.

Plymouth Music Accord (PMA) has been working to broker the continuation of Saturday chamber concerts at the Sherwell Centre. Clive Jenkins has organised meeting with Plymouth City Council, Peninsula Arts, PCMT trustees and potential sponsors to see what can be done.

The result is that Peninsula Arts, under the direction of Simon Ible, has agreed to promote a new chamber music series at the Sherwell Centre for the 2010/11 season. There will be fewer concerts than previously, depending on what financial support is forthcoming. PMA is actively raising finds to support this new series, and has also obtained City Council funding to assist with the merging of the PCMT mailing list/database with that of the PMA and of Jeanie Moore (see below).

Anyone already receiving the PMA Concert Diary will receive information about this new Sherwell Concert Series, but if you do not receive the PMA Concert Diary and wish to be kept informed of the new series, please register to be added to the PMA Mailing List (see below).

International Series Lunchtime Concerts

For 17 years Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery have held the International Concert Series on Thursdays at 1pm, organised by the indefatigable Jeanie Moore. These lunchtime concerts have proved very popular, especially, but not only, with those who prefer not to venture out in the evenings. The Museum has decided that this will be the last season.

Jeanie Moore has agreed to organise a replacement series to be held at the Sherwell Church, North Hill (next door to the Sherwell Centre) on Thursdays at lunchtime. Plymouth Music Accord has agreed to provide support and sponsorship but there will inevitably be fewer concerts than in the current season. Again, recipients of the PMA Concert Diary will receive information about the new International Series Lunchtime Concerts, but if you do not, please again register to be added to the PMA Mailing List (see below).

The existing PMA mailing list will be merged with the PCMT mailing list and Jeanie's mailing list. Those on the combined list will receive information about both new Chamber Music series as well as the PMA Concert Diary.
