Plymouth Classical Music is a non-commercial website run to help classical concertgoers in the Plymouth area and to support local music organisations in publicising their activities. Calling Choral Singers

The Brent Singers are looking for singers to join their choir - they are currently seeking singers in all voice parts but tenors and sopranos would be especially welcomed. No audition required - see the Brent Singers website for details.

The South West Chamber Choir needs tenors. Some sight-reading ability and familiarity with 4-part singing essential. We practice weekly at Derriford, Plymouth on Wednesday evenings and have a varied programme of concerts - see the South West Chamber Choir website. Collati Singers, directed by Trefor Farrow, welcomes enquiries from experienced choral singers, particularly basses. Rehearsals Tuesday evenings in Bittaford Church. Remaining concerts 2023 include Buckfast Abbey and St Mary’s Totnes. Programmes include works by Palestrina, Bach, Byrd and Rachmaninov, see www.collatisingers.co.uk. East Cornwall Bach Choir is recruiting new members in the Tenor, Bass and Soprano sections to join us from January 2024. We rehearse in Liskeard on a Wednesday evening from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm. We are a friendly bunch and look forward to welcoming you to a taster session. Ability to sight read is required and there will be a short audition after 3 or 4 weeks. Philip R Buttall – Classical Music Writer

Philip was Plymouth Herald's Classical Music Writer from 1997 until 2017. During that time he produced a weekly Classical Music Column, which provided previews of all manner of musical events happening in the city area - as well as concert reviews from time to time.

Although his Classical Column no longer runs, Philip now maintains an online home for his reviews of amateur and semi-professional events at ArtsCulture, which has recently been extended to carry press releases and news about forthcoming events, while he continues to file reviews of professional concerts at www.seenandheard-international.com
